In my hand I’ve got the flyer. It’s a house in a subdivision near Saint Louis that was for sale. Nothing special so far, but the perfect opportunity to give you a perfect example of what has to be the main difference between The Netherlands and the United States: space. Wikipedia tells me that the number of residents per square kilometer in The Netherlands is 404. In comparison, the numbers for the US and Missouri, in that order, are 32 and 34. A lot of other differences can be explained from this point of view. One of them would be housing. For further comparison I have added Google maps overviews of the neighbourhood I grew up in and a random neighbourhood in the bigger Saint Louis area. As you can see, the scales differ a little, but the 10 meter bar indicates it does show what I meant to show you.
The house I was talking about had the following characteristics:
- Five bedrooms, five bathrooms, master bedroom including walk in closet, two car garage, a theater room, and a guest bedroom with own sitting area, fireplace and jacuzzi tub. Price: $375.000.
- Three story house, four bedrooms, one bathroom with tub and shower (two separate toilets), your own parking space in front of the house and a backyard.
